Updating Maps On A Garmin Street Pilot I3?

by linkisking on Feb.08, 2010, under Garmin

We recently bought a Garmin Street pilot i3 on Ebay. Of course it was used as it is an older gps, but we thought it would be a good starter gps. I need to update my maps, but I can’t register it as it was already. What do I do?

Well, most of the software needed to update is downloadable from Garmin. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/store/downlo…
Those are the management and firmware updating programs.
Maps however are not free. You can BUY the Garmin MapSource DVD which will then be able to update the maps. Those can be purchased online or at many stores. Buy.com has them as do many online stores like Amazon.com.
The units simply don’t come with “lifetime” free maps.
Add - I forgot, you can BUY a subscription for lifetime “free maps” http://www.autonavdirect.com/request-14-…
    or other dealers.
