How Often Does Garmin Update Maps?

I recently purchases the Garmin C530 and was wandering how often they usually update their maps (City Navigator North America)

I think about as often as changes are made. My fiancee has an older version (he won’t let me replace it with a new one, he’s stuck on that one) and it updates itself occasionally. I don’t know for sure exactly when, only when he says “Oh, ok, it’s changed”.
